Update and business plan!
It's been a while since I made a blog post! A few things have happened since then and I've made lots of new plans.
A new character I'm planning to make a suit of for myself ;)
I'll start with what's new. I completed a new fursuit, the punk lynx premade that I'm still trying to sell at the time of writing! I also made my first fursuit collar to go with him, a spiky one that suits his edgy personality. He's also got a pair of paws and a tail to go with him.
I've also made it through the hardest semester of my college career so far, taking four hard STEM classes plus an unpaid internship at a local museum. This spring I only need two classes and then I'll be ready to graduate with my associate's degree!
Speaking of education, one major factor in my planning for Summer Dragon Studios' future is the fact that I'll be moving away for University! If I get my first choice of school, that'll be overseas. Exact dates are uncertain, but the idea of it puts a bunch of hurdles in my path of running this business.
Due to the circumstances of dorm or appartment living, I won't be able to make suits during my undergrad years. I can't justify bringing all that stuff and extra dust into a tiny space (potentially with roommates). So the suit making aspect of my furry life will have to go on hold for a while- not forever though, I'll be back at it eventually. During that time, I'm going to put lots of energy into the drawing and illustration aspect of my creativity. I've already spent lots of time buffering my portfolio with new pieces and occasionally doing free art giveaways when I don't know what to draw.
One difficulty in the transition to an illustration-focused model is the social media aspect. I have to change what I post gradually, to allow my account to return to the engagement it had in the beginning. At the present time I've been integrating art posts with fursuit posts, hoping to slowly saturate it more and more with still shots of my artwork. Instagram has been tough on this transition so far, far favoring videos instead of photos and plummeting my engagement as a whole. It's a little easier on BlueSky because I'm starting from square one on there anyway.
There are two- maybe three- more fursuits I intend to make before moving. The first is my half of a suit trade with my best friend Marz the cat. I'm making their other sona Kanua the hyena-cat and they're making Riptide, my wolf-shark hybrid. Kanua's head is currently in the works and I've got all her fur on hand already! The other suit I plan to make is Hypnos, my Cult of Sombrie tetrali character. I'm making them in anticipation for next year's Anthro New England and the "sleepytime" theme they have. Hypnos will be a head, tail, and wings in addition to the outfit that I showed in the article's first photo! The third suit I may or may not make is a simple premade head that uses up a bunch of the leftover fur I have sitting around from other projects. The main color is a neon yellow-green and it will be accented with a light blue.
The last thing I need to do before I leave Vermont will be to use up the rest of my leftover materials in small projects. I've currently got some paw-tail sets in the works and have plans to make a bunch of ear headbands. I want to try to empty my fur shelf so I can deep clean the room and rid it of dust before I leave home.
I'll leave more updates as I make progress on the plans I've outlined here!
